History[]

Pre-Marble League[]

The four original members of the Wolfpack, Balto, Remus, Sirius, and Fenrir, come from the remote city of Furbank, Pawlaska, a city with a cold climate and tight-knit community. The night of a full moon is held as sacred, with marbles observing a night of silence. In their free time, the marbles of Furbank compete in snow races. The four marbles met each other in school. Balto loved to challenge their friends to races through the snowy streets of the city, with the three other marbles being the only ones who could come close to keeping up with Balto. The four would meet after school to roll through the town and through the surrounding wilderness.

As soon as the four marbles were old enough they entered the Iditaroll, a grueling snow race between Furbank and Noom, held in the harshest winter month. Despite being rookies, the team managed to win their debut tournament, a never-before done feat. The Wolfpack became a household name, becoming a source of inspiration to the youth of Furbank. The team continued to dominate the competition, winning every year they competed.

Eventually, the Wolfpack started to feel the Iditaroll was no longer providing sufficient challenge - the problem was, due to the remoteness of Furbank, there were no other local competitions to compete in, not even in the larger city and capital of Pawlaska, Ancarnage. The team eventually heard about the Marble League. Marble League 2018 was hosted by the Snowballs in Hailfern, a city far from Furbank but probably the closest a major sporting tournament would get to Pawlaska and further than the team had ever traveled before, so the Wolfpack decided to attend, giving them the opportunity to see world-class athletes compete.

After winning yet another Iditaroll, the Wolfpack set off for Marble League 2018, stopping first in Snoronto. Nothing had prepared them for the size of the city, overwhelming the untraveled team. The team then took a train to Hailfern for competition. During their visit, they got to explore the town, visiting ski slopes and coffee shops. The team attended the eleven events held at the Arctic Circle and were blown away by the talent of the athletes. It was here that they realized that the Iditaroll wasn't as big a deal as they thought, with no marbles they met having ever heard of it. When the avalanche destroyed the Arctic Circle, the Wolfpack had to return home as they lacked the means to travel to Knikkegen for the rescheduled final event. As they left, the Wolfpack decided that they wanted to make it to the Marble League someday.

Realizing they weren't ready to compete at sports at that level yet, the team returned home to train and gain tournament experience. While in Hailfern they had heard about the Surculo, and decided to try to qualify for the 2019 edition. Unfortunately, Furbank would not give them the opportunity to grow so they decided to move to Ancarnage. Being a bigger city, it had more regular amateur-level mini-tournaments and resources for training. Throughout 2018, the Wolfpack became a more well-rounded team becoming a dominant force in the local tournaments.

The Wolfpack traveled to Numerun to take part in tryouts for the 2019 Surculo. The team competed well in multiple different types of event and they were chosen to compete. Unlike in the Iditaroll, the Wolfpack did not dominate the competition, having a slow start after finishing last in Balancing and Funnel Endurance, leaving the team discouraged.

At the halfway point of the tournament, Akela, who had been watching the tournament, reached out to the team and offered to be their coach. Akela had previously coached youth teams throughout the southern jungle and was looking for a chance to coach a professional team, after having only just missed out on becoming coach of the Jungle Jumpers. The Wolfpack accepted and they started to train together during the mid-tournament break, improving their overall skill and consistency. When the Wolfpack returned, the difference was immediately obvious with a bronze in the Relay, a gold in Collision and a silver at the Silver Surculo GP. Their successful second half led to them finishing fourth overall. The team returned to Ancarnage and would regularly fly out Akela to help them train. The Wolfpack continued to compete in local tournaments, dominating them and starting to get results on par with Marble League teams.

While the team's training focused on Marble League events, the team continued to enjoy snow races. In February 2020, the four marbles traveled out of Ancarnage to spend the day rolling through the wilderness. Later on in the day, a snowstorm started to build up in the distance. They would normally stick them out, but this was a particularly strong snowstorm so the team decided to go home early, except for Balto, always the most likely to brave the elements. The storm grew so severe that Balto had to take shelter in a cabin in the woods. At some point they lost consciousness. Remus, Fenrir and Sirius had arrived back in town when the blizzard struck, and realized Balto was stuck. As soon as the storm was over, they called for a rescue. Balto was recovered and taken to hospital and only survived due to the endurance they had built up as an athlete. They spent the next day in intensive care on life support, suffering from hypothermia and frostbite. Balto started to respond to treatment and regained consciousness the next day, waking up to find themself surrounded by their family, teammates, and coach who were relieved they had awoken.

Over many weeks in hospital, Balto started to recover, eventually returning home. However, they were still feeling some of the damage which affected their ability to perform. The Wolfpack had no choice but to pull out of the 2020 Surculo. Messages and gifts from the communities in Furbank and Ancarnage flooded the team, wishing Balto to get well soon, with one fan buying the team tickets to Marble League 2020 in Polaria. Seeing the teams compete made them even more driven to get into the Marble League. Balto continued to spend time redeveloping their athletic skills, hiring a trainer to help them regain their skills as quickly as possible without hurting themself, with the full support of the rest of the Wolfpack. By the end of the year, Balto was at a higher level than other Pawlaska athletes, only finishing behind their teammates.

As a break from training and to study racing techniques, the Wolfpack attended all of the Marbula One Season 2 Grands Prix, attending with some old school friends. When they arrived at the O'raceway, they realized one of their friends was missing. They spent some time searching for them but were unsuccessful, returning to their seats for the Qualifiers. During the qualifiers, the team finally spotted their friend hiding next to track disguised as a marbsheep, having being inspired by Roldo - this lead to their friend going by the name of Sheep. Unfortunately, when Sheep was leaving the stadium they were spotted by security. Sheep turned and rolled away as fast as they could. The members of the Wolfpack saw the high speed chase and realized they were a fast marble. Sheep was finally caught and warned they would be barred if they were caught trespassing again. So at the next race Sheep decided to hide as a marbsheep again and this time was not caught. At future Grands Prix there were no marbsheep so Sheep ended their hiding streak then.

At the end of the Marbula One season, the Wolfpack received an invite compete in Surculo 2021 due to the Rojo Rollers deciding not to return. The team were unsure if Balto would have fully recovered, but Balto insisted they accept, confident they would be ready when the tournament began. Another reason was that the Marble League roster was beginning to stabilize and they may not get another chance to prove themselves as worthy competitors. The Surculo had expanded to teams with five members so the Wolfpack needed to recruit a reserve member. They could only think of one marble to take the position, and despite Akela's initial skepticism due to their disciplinary record, Sheep was invited to try out. After a few test rolls they were accepted as the official reserve. The now five-member team trained fro the Surculo, with Akela staying in Ancarnage to help them train full-time.

Unlike in their debut at the Surculo, the Wolfpack got off to a strong start, with Fenrir winning the 5 Meter Sprint. Podium finishes in Funnel Endurance, the Relay and Block Pushing kept the team in first overall. Despite a poor finish in their weak event of Balancing and some solid finishes in the Triathlon and Collision, the Wolfpack continued to remain in first overall heading into the final event, the Sand Rally. The team decided to let Balto race as they had done well in the event the previous time they competed. Unfortunately Balto was not at their best and finished second to last. Despite this, the Wolfpack finished in first overall, winning the 2021 Surculo. Following the awards ceremony, the team stayed in Numerun for a few nights to celebrate before returning to Ancarnage. When they arrived, thousands of fans were waiting to celebrate their success. The Wolfpack were no longer an unknown team but were making a name for themselves.

The Marble League announced that in 2022 it would be expanding to 32 teams and so there were four spots available. One of the marbles who was working for the Marble League at the time, Nova, was intrigued by the team. They had Pawlaskian ancestry and had risen to fame as director of the Polaria sports industry under Royal Stardust before working for Team Galactic and then the Jelle's Marble Runs Committee. They stepped down from this role in 2021 due to stress, but had agreed to put forward the team in exchange for becoming manager of the team. The Wolfpack accepted and Nova became their manager. In their last meeting with the Jelle's Marble Association, Nova put the team forward. They then traveled to Ancarnage to meet the team. They bonded with Sirius over their love of stargazing as well as discovering they were distant relatives. Nova enjoyed the change so much they permanently moved to Ancarnage. Throughout the winter, Nova continued to discuss the team's position with Marble League organizers.[1]

2022[]

In March of 2022, Nova was summoned to the JMA headquarters where they were given an invite for Marble League Showdown 2022. The team celebrated, having finally achieved their dream. The Showdown became the team's sole focus in training, knowing that relegation had returned so they needed to finish in 12th or higher. With so many veteran teams competing, the team decided to focus on a solid performance rather than winning outright.

After months of preparation, the Wolfpack flew to Bermenghank, with seemingly the whole of Pawlaska attending the airport to wave them off. The team spent a few days exploring the city and meeting many of the Marble League teams. The Wolfpack were invited to a meeting with the other expansion teams and were asked if they wanted to compete in a practice round before the Showdown. All four teams agreed.

The Marble League 2022 Friendly Round started well for the Wolfpack, with a second place for Sirius and Remus in Climbing. Unfortunately, they finished in the bottom half of the other three events, finishing in joint-last overall. Akela was sure they had gotten caught up in the moment, but once they had settled into competing they would be better.

The Wolfpack had a poor start to Marble League Showdown 2022 with a 12th place finish in Swing Wave. Fenrir managed to turn things around in Event 2, the 5 Meter Sprint, winning gold after beating Diego of the Indigo Stars who they had narrowly lost to in the initial heats. Their good form was continued with a silver for Sheep in the Water Race, keeping them in second overall. Unfortunately, the rest of the Showdown went poorly, with bottom half finishes in all but one of the remaining events, dropping the Wolfpack to sixth overall. Despite this disappointing ending, the Wolfpack had done enough to get into the Marble League 2023 Qualifiers.

The Wolfpack returned in the off-season for the Xmas Marble Race held in Hailfern. Balto was eager to redeem themself after their poor individual events at the Showdown. They managed to finish in fifth, a confidence boost for the team captain.[1]

2023[]

Marbula One Season 4[]

The Wolfpack started to prepare for a long off-season before the Marble League 2023 Qualifiers. However, they received a surprise invite to compete in Marbula One Season 4. Fenrir had proven their speed in the Showdown and was selected as the team's 1st marble. Balto wanted to focus on training and declined, whilst Sheep wasn't interested in competing, leaving Remus and Sirius. The two held a race to see who would join Fenrir, and Sirius won convincingly.

The Wolfpack had previously overcome a lack of experience to succeed, but unfortunately they could not overcome their lack of circuit racing experience in Marbula One Season 4. Both Fenrir and Sirius failed to earn points at their opening Grands Prix at the Razzway and O'raceway. Fenrir's next attempt came at Sakura Garden. Despite showing promising ability such as a quintuple overtake in lap 6, elevating them to fourth, they couldn't maintain this position and finished the race in eighth. Sirius would match this with an eighth at their next Grand Prix at Greenstone. Unfortunately, this was the peak of their season, with the Wolfpack going scoreless in five of the final six Grands Prix including a last place at the Casino Square Grand Prix, being overtaken by Team Galactic in the final turn of the race. The Wolfpack finished in 19th overall, ahead of only the Raspberry Racers. The Racers offered them some advice at the end of the season: Marbula One doesn't define their legacy, this doesn't mean they can't be a successful Marble League team. Despite their disappointing performance, many fans traveled to watch every Grand Prix, just happy to see Pawlaska represented.[1]
