Le Tour de Vellis is a marble sports marathon held in Vellis and throughout the region. The five original members of the Savage Speeders first met at the 2010 Tour de Vellis. They then spent the next two years training so they could qualify for the marathon. The five, going by the name of the Speeders, qualified for the 2012 Tour de Vellis and came 5th, which was unheard of for a rookie team. Over the next three years, they finished in the top 5 of the competition before winning their first tour in 2014 and then again in 2015. News outlets compared them to the Vikings, referring to them as "savage". This led to Speeders adding "Savage" to their name.
After their win in 2015, the Savage Speeders were approached by Greg Woods, who ran the Fruit Circuit. Greg asked them to join the new international competition, the Marble League. The team agreed and, the next day, they announced their retirement from the Tour with no explanation, much to the disappointment and confusion of their fans.[1]
In 2014, future captain of the Green Ducks, Mallard, won tickets to the 2014 Tour de Vellis and saw the Speeders five win the tournament for the first time.[2]
