The Season 2 Minty Mania Grand Prix was the first race of Marbula One Season 2, held on 7 - 8 November 2020.

Qualifying

Summary

Q1 started off with the defending racers' champion, Speedy, closely followed by Marbula One rookie Yellow Eye. Speedy put up a fairly good lap with a time of 16.198 s, but Yellow Eye managed to beat that time by just over 0.150 s. Both of them made the front row for Q2. Another new team doing well were the Bumblebees, namely Bumble, who put up a time of 16.399 s, which was good enough for 6th in this part of qualifying. Starry did well in the first sector, however, they lost quite some time in the other sectors, and brought up a lap time of 16.500 s, coming 0.007 s short of Q2. On the other hand, the Snowballs and Midnight Wisps had a rather disappointing qualifying. Snowy and Wospy only barely managed to qualify, their times being only good enough for 15th and 16th, respectively. The Minty Maniacs, hosts of the event, faced an even bigger disappointment. Minty Drizzel came in dead last by quite some margin, and even got overtaken by Razzy on their qualifying run. As a consequence, Minty Drizzel got eliminated, as well as Hop, Azure and Clutter. The Minty Maniacs being eliminated on their home track sparked rumors about the Host's Curse once again.

Right at the start of Q2, Speedy took the lead from Yellow Eye, who shortly dropped back to 4th behind Mallard and Bumble, but managed to overtake the latter by the end of lap 1. On the second lap, Speedy maintained their lead, with Yellow Eye getting back into 2nd. Bumble, on the other hand, lost another position to Smoggy, who also overtook Mallard for 3rd. Bumble came in 5th, only 00.04 s behind Mallard in 4th. Razzy, Clementin and Prim, on the other hand, had a rather uneventful Q2 and came in 6th, 7th and 8th, respectively.

In Q3, Speedy initially maintained the lead, Smoggy got past Yellow Eye into 2nd. At the end of lap 1, however, Speedy struggled to get onto the conveyor belt, allowing Smoggy to take the lead. Coming off the belt, Speedy dropped even further back into 4th. Coming out of Turn 7, Smoggy had to fend off Mallard, allowing Yellow Eye to get back into 2nd. Smoggy came in first to take pole position, earning them one bonus point.

Race

Summary

Right after the race started, Yellow Eye swiftly took the lead from the polesitter Smoggy, meanwhile Momo quickly elevated to fourth after a incredible start, and Wospy is already far away from the back of the pack. After the first lap the top five are Yellow Eye, Smoggy, Speedy, Momo and Bumble. Starry dropped 6 spots after a terrible lap 1. Mallard got a terrible launch off the conveyor belt and quickly dropped to ninth after two turns during lap 2, meanwhile Speedy managed to overtake Smoggy into P2 right after they exited the conveyor belt. Prim performed great in this lap and climbed five spots up into 7th while Clementin dropped to 11th. Wospy is already nearly 4 second behind from the leader Yellow Eye.

Coming out of the conveyor belt, Smoggy managed to pass Speedy. Just before the ramp, Smoggy failed to block Bumble and Bumble managed to overtake Smoggy and make it into P3. Smoggy passed the banked turn terribly and got passed by Razzy and Momo on the following front-stretch. Meanwhile, Yellow Eye set the fastest lap with a score of 20.53 seconds, and has managed to stretch the lead for over one second over Bumble. Wospy managed to overtake Snowy after being in last for more than three laps. Bumble did not go through the banked turn well and dropped to fourth at the end of lap 4. Momo rose up three spots up into 3rd in this lap, and Wospy managed to overtake Starry into P14, ending the fourth lap of the race.

Momo got a good conveyor belt launch-off and passed Speedy. At this time, Razzy is very close behind and Bumble is running in fifth. Speedy was too fast getting on the conveyor belt and got stuck in the conveyor belt and fell to last. A yellow flag occurred and the race still went on. Momo started to gain speed and tried to overtake Yellow Eye. Shortly after the first few turns, the yellow flag turned into a red flag because of a conveyor belt stoppage, which means that the race would be restarted from lap 6 based on the standings before the red flag occurred. Momo managed to overtake Yellow Eye during the suspended lap, but the lead change was voided, as it happened after the red flag was waved. The conveyor belt stopped and Speedy was escorted off the track and retired from the race.

After the red flag, the top 8 in the restarting order were Yellow Eye, Momo, Razzy, Bumble, Mallard, Smoggy, Clementin and Limelime. Yellow Eye successfully avoided being overtaken by Momo in the first few turns. Limelime went through the banked turn smoothly and elevated into P2 and at the meantime Momo dropped to 5th. Snowy is already far away from the leader by a margin of 2.5 seconds, and that's how they end lap 6. Mallard passed Limelime after the first few turns and was trying the best they could to overtake Yellow Eye. Yellow Eye successfully blocked Momo during the backstretch and the banked turn, still managing to hold the lead after 7 laps in the race. Sea and Starry have slowly climbed up into 8th and 9th respectively.

Coming into lap 8, Limelime got a poor conveyor belt launch-off and got passed by Momo and Bumble. Momo made a nice overtake on the backstretch and moved into second. Momo also set the fastest lap by a score of 19.86 seconds. Lap 9 saw Yellow Eye's lead shrinking as Momo and Mallard are closing the gap between them and Yellow Eye ever so slightly. After lap 9, the pole-sitter Smoggy has already fell all the way back to 8th. Prim fell to last and was nearly 4.5 seconds behind the leader. Momo is pressuring Mallard as the gap between them is closer and closer, but Mallard shut the door. At the end of lap 10, Snowy has already climbed into P10. In lap 11 we saw Wospy being overtaken by Prim, dropping into P15. Snowy continued to overtake and moved into P8. Smoggy had recovered a it after the restart and climbed back into P9. Wospy had a horrible lap and was now 7 seconds behind the leader Yellow Eye.

Half of the laps yet to go, Yellow Eye had stretched the lead for one second. The top 5 have separated each other and they are Yellow Eye, Mallard, Momo, Razzy and Bumble respectively. Mallard set the fastest lap with a time of 19.85 s, just 00.01 s quicker than Momo scored in lap 8. The top 3 began to separate from the field in lap 13, and there's a train of marbles battling for 4th behind Razzy. Momo got past Mallard on the front-stretch at the end of lap 13, which made Yellow Eye's lead grew bigger, already nearly two seconds. Snowy has also moved into P7.

The chaos in the middle of the field continued in lap 14 as Yellow found themselves into P5, who was not even in top 8 before the restart, and Limelime, who was in P2 at one point after the race, fell all the way into P10. Snowy made it into P5 before lap 16 started, which is incredible for a racer who started at P15 at the restart which happened just ten laps ago. Coming into lap 16, Momo was slowly inching closer to Yellow Eye, trying to attack Yellow Eye for the whole lap. Yellow Eye blocked Momo successfully and kept the lead. Momo set the fastest lap once again with a score of 19.72 s, at the same time, Snowy passed Bumble for P4, trying to aim for Mallard who was in second. Sea came out of nowhere and made it all the way into P5.

Yellow Eye had already started lap 18 when Wospy hadn't even got to the ramp in lap 17. Bumble made a nice dive in the inside which allowed them to pass both Sea and Snowy into P4. Smoggy, the pole-sitter has already fell into 11th, just barely able to score a few points. What's more, they dropped to thirteenth after lap 21 ended.

During the penultimate lap, Yellow Eye stretched the lead to nearly a second ahead of Momo, nearly 2.5 s ahead of third place Mallard. Clementin fell all the way back into 13th despite starting from 7th at the restart. In the final lap, Yellow Eye refused to give the lead to Momo and won the race, with Mallard rounding out the podium. Bumble, Snowy, Razzy, Yellow and Sea took 4th through 8th respectively.

Trivia

• This race marks the second Marbula One Grand Prix to have a red flag, and the fourth to have a yellow flag.
• If the voided overtake before the red flag in the suspended 6th lap is ignored, then Yellow Eye's race victory marks the second instance of a race winner leading at the end of every lap, following Clutter in the Season 1 Momotorway Grand Prix.
• With a total distance of 237.84 m, this Grand Prix is the longest by length in Marbula One history.
