The third race of the 2017 Sand Marble Rally was held in Klimduin Brechtdorp. The track was a sprint course.

Race

Report

The race was won by Quicksilver after getting past Nemo, Fantasy and Dragon's Egg who all bumped against a Rotating Chevron Sign at the end of the course. Fantasy ended second, Dragon's Egg third and Wisp of Darkness was able to also get passed Nemo to fourth, while Nemo was left to claim fifth. Almost half a second later Deep Ocean finished sixth, El Capitan seventh, Blizzard Blaster eight, Black Knight ninth and Glassy rounded up the top ten. The Ghost Marble finished after Glassy. Crazy Cat's Eye ended eleventh. Then six seconds further back Lollipop, Big Pearl, Red Number 3 and Summer Sky finished in those respective positions. With Comet, H2 Blue and Pollo Loco narrowly missing out on the top 15. Slimer and Ghost Plasma both got stuck at the Rotating Chevron Sign at the end of the course.

Trivia

• This race's original start was aborted after a huge pile-up in the opening seconds took out twelve of the twenty participating marbles, leaving Slimer, Glassy, Blizzard Blaster, Comet, Quicksilver, Crazy Cat's Eye, Red Number 3 and El Capitan as the only competitors still running. If not for the stoppage, the resulting race would have been easily holding the record for most DNF's in a SMR event. Moreover, the second start (the official one) was further delayed by a dog strolling around at the bottom of the course.
