The eight race of the Sand Marble Rally 2016 was held at Doornse Gat on the 28th September 2016. 20 marbles participated in the race.

Report

Coming out of the gate, the racers came into a split, where Pollo Loco took an early lead over Big Pearl in second on the high line, while El Capitan led Starman on the low line. Coming out of the split, Pollo Loco and Big Pearl kept first and second, and grew their lead. The leaders on the bottom lane lost out to Pollo Loco and Big Pearl, who took the top two spots coming out of the split. The leaders on the low line missed out on the next positions to Marbly McMarbleface and Summer Sky, who took third and fourth respectively.

Through a few gradual turns, the top four kept their positions. The racers entered a split, where Pollo Loco, Big Pearl, and Summer Sky took the faster low line, while Marbly McMarbleface took the far slower high line. When the paths converged, H2 Blue was able to take fourth, with Marbly losing out multiple positions, dropping out of the top five.

The racers entered a set of slalom turns, which was followed by a wide straight that had some obstacles on it. Big Pearl, who had been running very closely behind Pollo Loco, attempted a pass, but they bumped against a rock on the wall of the course, letting Pollo Loco grow their lead. However, taking advantage of some gradual turns, Big Pearl came right back behind Pollo Loco, and was able to pass them. The racers entered a set of helices, where the top four kept their positions. However, they quickly entered a banked turn, where H2 Blue was able to pass Summer Sky for third place. Championship leader Ghost Plasma threatened to pass Summer Sky as well, but was beaten back. The racers entered another set of splits, where the top four held their positions. They entered the final stretch, where Pollo Loco attempted to close the gap between themand Big Pearl, but was not able to take the lead.

Crossing the finish line first was Big Pearl, who was already coming off of a second place finish in the previous race. Pollo Loco followed closely behind, who had not been able to regain the lead after Big Pearl passed them earlier in the race. The next three racers came only 0.25 seconds apart, with H2 Blue managing to secure a podium position, narrowly ahead of Summer Sky in fourth, and Ghost Plasma taking fifth place for the second race in a row. Starman came in fourth, after having been near the top four at the very beginning of the race, but soon losing out. Marbly McMarbleface, who had been running in third earlier in the race, was not fully able to recover from taking the punishing high line during the split, but was able to salvage a seventh place finish. Super Turtle netted their second top ten finish in a row in eighth, followed by Dragon's Egg, who was not able to finish ahead of their championship rival Ghost Plasma, letting them grow their lead in the standings. Finally, Rastafarian rounded out the top ten, managing to net 11 points.
