The fourth race of Marble Rally 2019 was held on 17th October 2019, on the same course as the previous race, at Doornse Gat. 20 marbles participated in the race.

Report

Off the mild curve at the start, Comet jumped into the lead ahead of Crazy Cat's Eye, Slimer, Reflektor and H2 Blue. Shortly after, Dragon's Egg managed to move ahead of H2 Blue to take fifth. Some bumping between the competitors caused H2 Blue to further lose momentum and fall behind Phoenix. Reflektor slipstreamed past Slimer and tried a lunge at Crazy Cat's Eye, but was expertly blocked off as they negotiated a wide chicane. H2 Blue and Black Knight both jumped ahead of Phoenix to take sixth and seventh. Having started last, reigning champion Red Number 3 was on a rapid charge through the field as usual and already moved up to ninth place just thirty seconds into the event.

Through a longer set of esses, Comet fell from the lead to third and conversely Reflektor jumped from third to first. Red Number 3 was demoted to tenth by Blizzard Blaster. They were able to retake that position through some more esses, where also Phoenix jumped back ahead of H2 Blue and Black Knight Then there was a split where most of the marbles took the lower line, but Slimer, H2 Blue, El Capitan and Ghost Plasma opted for the upper route. The upper line turned out to be quicker with Slimer, H2 Blue and El Capitan taking the provisional podium and Ghost Plasma advancing to sixth. Previous leaders Reflektor and Crazy Cat's Eye duly fell to fourth and fifth respectively.

However, they were both able to jump ahead of El Capitan through yet another set of esses. Comet, meanwhile, virtually disappeared from the battles as they faded through the running order. Crazy Cat's Eye then jumped ahead of Reflektor themselves to move up into third, while Ghost Plasma wasn't doing too well as they were demoted to seventh by Phoenix. As those battles were going on, Slimer managed to skip away from the pursuing pack and pulled out a major Red Number 3-esque lead over second-place H2 Blue. El Capitan managed to re-pass Reflektor for fourth place. A chevron sign then shook up the order, with El Capitan moving up to second, H2 Blue falling to fourth, Crazy Cat's Eye staying in third and suddenly Ghost Plasma in fifth.

Then there was a set of chaotic esses which led to some dramatic changes in the running order. Phoenix, H2 Blue, Reflektor, Crazy Cat's Eye and Ghost Plasma were all involved in a tight five-way contest for the final podium spot while Slimer and El Capitan continued to slip away in the top two positions. Running somewhere lower in the top ten, Black Knight ended up stranded in the esses. Not even three seconds passed and H2 Blue was also out of the race by crashing into the outside wall. Simultaneously, Pollo Loco was sent flying off the course. Quicksilver rolled to a halt after bumping against the stranded H2 Blue, totaling four DNF's in a span of just ten seconds. The Ghost Marble also got stuck on the exit of the esses soon after those events. When the field finally left the esses, the top five order stood as Slimer, El Capitan, Reflektor, Ghost Plasma, Phoenix. Slimer still had a big lead, but the gaps were now more equal as El Capitan had a similar cushion back to Reflektor behind them. After having virtually disappeared from the top ten since the initial running, Dragon's Egg was making a comeback and wrestled fifth away from Phoenix.

Slimer crashed into the attenuator in another split and fell back to third behind El Capitan and Reflektor. After taking the lead, El Capitan skipped away significantly while Slimer was all over the back or Reflektor to try and re-take second position. They were eventually successful in doing so, while Phoenix clawed their way back into the top five off-screen by re-passing Dragon's Egg. Indeed, no additional changes would come in the top four positions as El Capitan won the race by over a second ahead of Slimer and Reflektor. Behind them there was a fierce battle of champions as fourth-placed Ghost Plasma barely held off Dragon's Egg and Red Number 3 to the line, both of whom had passed Phoenix in the final stretch. Early front-runners Comet and Crazy Cat's Eye as well as Superball rounded out the top ten. Cool Moody, Silver Bolt, Marbly McMarbleface, Blizzard Blaster and Summer Sky held down the minor point placings, followed by a lonely Cobra in sixteenth.
