The opening ceremony started with the entrance of Stardust, the King and also the Mascot of the nation of Team Galactic. This was followed by the arrival of the Marble League Trophy which was placed below the Marble League cauldron. Stardust was then joined by the seven members of JMR staff, including Jelle and Dion Bakker and Greg Woods. They were followed by 10 members of the JMRC. Then the 16 qualified teams entered the ceremony one by one with their team, led by their coaches. The first team were the hosts, Team Galactic, who carried the Marble League torch, before being followed by the rest of the teams.

The Marble League Cauldron lit at the Opening Ceremony.

After the processions, Team Galactic released a small ball bearing down a Gravitrax track, releasing more ball bearings and included a Newton's cradle. The final ball bearing set off a row of dominoes which eventually collided with a teleport which sent the torch up to the cauldron, officially starting Marble League 2020.

BalancingPictogram

The official Balancing pictogram for Marble League 2020, designed by the JMRC.

In balancing, teams of four marbles must roll down a track with no walls on it, referred to as a balance beam. If a marble falls off the track, its distance from the start (in centimeters) will be tallied and counted towards the team's final score. Any marble who reaches the green zone at the end of the track earns the maximum individual score of 130, which is also added toward the team's final score. A marble must land in the green zone to score 130; any marble that reaches the end of the beam but does not land in the green zone will only score 120. The team with the highest collective score wins.
