The hurdles returned to the MarbleLympics, but in a different form to MarbleLympics 2016. Instead of having the marbles jump into the air over the hurdles, the marbles power their way through hanging flaps. Four marbles from different teams roll down a 5 meter long track, rolling through the hurdles. The fastest two from each heat move onto the next round.
In Semi Final B, Swifty of the Savage Speeders started out in last, but came back and won the race, passing Ocean from the Oceanics at the last hurdle and Sublime of the Limers just centimeters before the finish. Swifty beat Sublime and Ocean by a time of 8.69 to 8.73 and 8.77 respectively, to break the MarbleLympics record by 0.03 of a second.
The race had a margin of 0.08 separating the top three teams, which is the closest finish in MarbleLympics 2017 amongst three marbles. The closest finish in MarbleLympics history between three marbles was the final in the Hurdles event in MarbleLympics 2016. A margin of 0.03 separated the top three teams (Savage Speeders, Mellow Yellow and Thunderbolts).
This comeback from Swifty was also featured #6 on Jelle's "MarbleLympics 2017 Top 10 Video Highlights" video.
At this event, the MarbleLympics point system was changed, so that gold received 25 points, silver 20 points, and bronze 15 points. This change was applied retroactively. However, in the 2018 re-release, the new points system was used from the start.
It was announced that Mimo would take the place of injured teammate Momomomo.
