However, the team has yet to qualify for the Marble League, due to their poor performances in the Qualifiers. But in 2022 the Turtle Sliders finished 14th in Marbula One Season 3 finishing only four points behind the Savage Speeders , despite a poor performance in Marble League 2022 Qualifiers they finished 4th in the Marble League Showdown the highest they have placed in the Showdown.

History[]

Pre-Marble League[]

Turtle Sliders Logo

The Turtle Sliders' original logo, designed by FamousOlSpiced (the team's creator).

The Turtle Sliders started their marble racing career in the Seven Seas Circuit, racing against other teams from Oceania such as the Oceanics. Shelly, the only original member of the team remaining, was key in helping the team outsmart their opponents and keep up with the Oceanics. Their skills in endurance, longevity and drive to compete kept them going in marble sports even as their old teammates retired. Unfortunately the Sliders never managed to beat the Oceanics, but came close in the 2015 Seven Seas Circuit when they came third overall.

Once the Oceanics left to join the Marble League, many of the original members of the team lost interest and left the team. In mid-2018 Shelly traveled across the region to cities such as Aslipi, Jamarbla and Mellacai to recruit new members. In the end Shelly recruited Crush, Squirt, Dash, and Frank (the reserve member). Splint, the team's original coach, stayed with the team.

Crush was from Aslipi and used to compete in the Turtle Sliders' minor league team, the Hatchling Skidders. After they retired from sports, they went into acting and appeared in a crime documentary produced by the Non-Descript Entertainment Company about colorful fish being kidnapped. They were convinced to join the Sliders by their younger sibling, Squirt, who had always looked up to Crush's leadership while they were in the Skidders. Frank followed them from the minor leagues and became the reserve member.

Dash was recruited from Jamarbla. They were a rising star athlete in the city, known for their "extreme speed trials" that they would post on MarBook. They already had a huge fanbase and when they joined the Turtle Sliders, the fans followed. This large number of fans started to petition for the team to be allowed to compete in the Marble League 2019 Qualifiers. Splint, the original team's coach, was living in Mellacai when they were contacted about reforming the Turtle Sliders.

The Turtle Sliders began training in Aslipi for the 2019 Seven Seas Circuit when they received news of the Marble League Showdown which featured a fan vote competition to determine two of the places. Their fans voted for the team in overwhelming numbers, using their previous previous rivalry with Oceanics to attract attention. This was their message to the team posted online:

"But we are coming for you, we will not stand in your shadow, we are here to take it all. Our goal is to make it to the Marble League and win it all—we made it this far, we aren’t gonna stop now. We WILL make it to the starting line next to you, and when we do, you better be prepared. Your past is catching up to you."

Along with their past rivalry, their logo and reunion story were also praised. In the end they finished second in the vote behind the Hornets, and were entered into Marble League Showdown 2019.

During this time, the Crazy Cat's Eyes visited the team, boating around the islands and racing each other underwater while motivating them to do as well as they could in the upcoming Showdown.[2]

The Turtle Sliders tie with the Limers in Collison

As the team trained, they focused on honing their synergy as a team. This paid off when they came fifth in Event 2, Collision. Unfortunately the other three events did not go as well. Squirt finished ninth in Event 1, the Sand Rally, after struggling to reach the top four after getting caught behind a gaggle of competitors. Dash led for a lot of the Funnel Race but ended up consecutively falling through the final two funnels finishing in tenth and dropping them to tenth overall. The team had trained for the final event, Balancing, but their nerves got the better of them and they could only manage an 11th place finish, finishing in 11th overall, failing to qualify for the Marble League 2020 Qualifiers.

TSMLS192

The Turtle Sliders fail to qualify with an 11th place finish in Balancing

The Sliders returned to Aslipi and started to train at their training facility, Slider Academy, located on Sliding Square, named in honor of the team after their third-place finish in the 2015 Seven Seas Circuit. The team expected to return home to a disappointed crowd but were surprised by a huge celebration, with festivities lasting long into the night.

Slider Academy was certified by the JMRC but was severely underequipped, with a lot of money spent on a pool. Shelly started an athletic training program, although not all of the rest of the team had the time to take part.[3]

During the off-season, Splint received a call from White Eye, the manager of the Crazy Cat's Eyes. Their team had also not done as well as they would have liked, finishing 11th in Marble League 2019. The two coaches organised for the Sliders to visit the Cat's Eyes in Felynia. After landing in the city, White Eye took the team to a nearby park where they hid behind bushes to surprise the Cat's Eyes. When the Cat's Eyes arrived, the Sliders jumped out and surprised them, leading to an ecstatic reunion. The two teams had tea in the park before travelling to the Cat's Eyes training facilities. The two teams trained together, including practicing an Elimination Race. The final came down to the two reserves, Frank and Cyan Eye with Frank just winning in a photo finish. After the Sliders returned from their trip, they were more determined to train hard so they could compete in the Marble League alongside their friends.[2]

2020[]

The Sliders returned to the Seven Seas Circuit, performing well in the twelve-event tournament. They managed to win gold in the Underwater Race and Rafting. Going into the final event, the Marble Marathon, the Sliders were just ahead of the Balls of Flame and decided to put in Frank, remembering their performance in the Elimination Race against the Crazy Cat's Eyes. Frank qualified in third, but managed to pull ahead alongside Check from the Balls of Flame in the penultimate lap. After a photo finish that took an hour for the judges to decide, they ruled that Frank had won, winning the team the 2020 Seven Seas Circuit ahead of the Balls of Flame and the Archerfish. Fans filled Sliding Square upon their return to Aslipi. They quickly returned to training for the upcoming Marble League Showdown 2020.

The Turtle Sliders face the Jawbreakers in the Halfpipe

The Sliders started off Marble League Showdown 2020 by finishing just outside the top half in seventh in the Relay Run. This was followed by a less good ninth place finish in the Halfpipe. Dash and Shelly got the Sliders' only top half finish by coming sixth in the Black Hole Funnel. Despite this, they dropped to ninth overall. Unfortunately Squirt could only manage an eighth place finish in the final event, the Sand Mogul Race, making the Sliders finish in ninth overall. Once again the Turtle Sliders failed to qualify for the Marble League 2021 Qualifiers and were heartbroken again, especially after doing so well in the Seven Seas Circuit.

The team went out to a juice bar to cheer up where they met the Crazy Cat's Eyes along with some other marbles including Gogo and Mimo. They encouraged the Sliders that they may not have done well but they gave their all. The team felt better and asked to train with the Cat's Eyes again. They traveled to Felynia and started training amid the construction for Marble League 2021.

After their trip, the Sliders returned to Aslipi to train. They remembered their struggles on the sand so they set aside a location on the beach to build a Sand Rally track. They decided to have a more balanced training program, rather than focusing so heavily on water sports.[2]

2021[]

Crush

Crush lining up for the Marble League 2021 Practice Race.

In April, Splint received a call from Jelle explaining the qualification system for the Marble League had changed meaning the Sliders could compete in the Marble League 2021 Qualifiers. The team were excited to have the opportunity to compete, even if they were in a different group to their rivals, the Oceanics.

During the offseason the Sliders were invited to take part in the Marble League 2021 Practice Race, where Crush participated in a sand race, finishing 13th out of 28 racers from all current Marble League teams. The Sliders traveled to Felynia many times to train with the Crazy Cat's Eyes and get used to the climate.[2] Despite this, the Sliders nearly missed the Qualifiers after unfavorable flight conditions leading to cancellations as well as struggling to get a ride to the airport.[4]

In the Marble League 2021 Qualifiers, the Turtle Sliders had a poor start in the Swing Wave when one marble got zero points and the other three placed behind every member of the Green Ducks. On their second run, they did even worse, with two of the team getting zero points and the other two placing behind all members of the Green Ducks. This left them in 11th place in Group B. In Event 2, Funnel Endurance, Dash was selected to compete. Dash changed positions multiple times throughout the race but unfortunately they finished in ninth, keeping the team in 11th overall. In the third event, the 5 Meter Relay, they competed in the first heat. They had a poor start but in the last handoff they edged into the lead for a split second, but the Shining Swarm overtook them and won by 0.016 seconds. The Turtle Sliders ending up in fourth and this moved them to eighth in the overall standings. In the fourth and final event, the Sand Rally, Crush got into an early lead before hitting an obstacle on the track and falling to 11th. They sat in 11th for a while but slowly made their way up to eighth before making a charge up to fourth. They then got into second, behind the Pinkies. Near the end, the Pinkies hit the wall and slowed down, giving Crush an opening. Unfortunately they failed to take it and they finished in fourth. The Sliders finished in tenth overall, failing to qualify for Marble League 2021, only two points away from qualifying.

In the Marble League Showdown 2021, the team looked to be equaling their previous performances with a tenth and eighth place finish in the first two events, the 5 Meter Sprint and Funnel Endurance. After a respectable sixth place finish in the 5 Meter Relay, the team got bronze in Block Pushing, their first ever podium. This was immediately followed by a silver by Dash in the Triathlon, bringing the team up to third overall, the teams highest ever position in the Marble League Showdown. This was followed by another sixth place in Diving and the team's worst ever finish to date, a 12th in the Sand Mogul Race. In the final event, Marblocross, Crush finished in fifth. Unfortunately, it was not enough to prevent the Sliders from finishing in the bottom half in seventh overall, two places higher than any of their previous Showdowns.

After finishing the Showdown, the Turtle Sliders returned to the 2021 Seven Seas Circuit, which they won for the second year in a row.[5]

2022[]

Marbula One Season 3[]

The Turtle Sliders once again hosted the Crazy Cat's Eyes in Aslipi. While they were visiting, they received a letter from JMR. The Cat's Eyes knew what the invite was but didn't give it away as the Sliders opened the letter. Once revealing that it was an invite to compete in Marbula One Season 3, the Sliders and Cat's Eyes celebrated together. The Sliders accepted the invite and chose Crush and Dash as their racers.[5]

The day finally came, and Dash was chosen to be the first marble to compete for the team at Tumult Turnpike Grand Prix. They started great as they managed to fight for a podium spot the whole race, but unfortunately lost it on the very final corner and finished in 4th. However, they finished their next two race dead last, thus dropping them to 11th. The next three races had them advanced to Q2, but all three saw them fall down the order and finish no higher than 10th. At the end of the first half, they only score 29 points, sitting at 17th on the teams’ standings.

After a short break, the seventh race came, the Momotorway Grand Prix, and Dash once again competed for the team. They got really nervous as if they’ll disappoint their fans again, even though they started in P5. After being encouraged by their friend, Yellow Eye, as well as their teammate and their coach, Dash soon gained their confidence back and was ready to race. Dash started well in the first two laps, and in the third lap, for the first time, they were leading the field. They held this place until losing it on lap 9 to Shimmer. They patiently wait, and on the conveyor belt of the penultimate lap, they took back the lead and held on until they crossed the finish line. For the first time in their career, they won their first-ever gold medal. The team couldn’t hold their joy of finally being able to stand on the top of the podium. This gold medal shot the team’s position up to 7th, and Dash also got up to 5th on the standing. The joy didn't last long though, as they scored no points for the next two races, before getting another 4th after Crush had a hard fight for the podium spot. Both Dash and Crush didn’t end their season well, getting 17th and 15th in their final race respectively. The Turtle Sliders ended the season in 14th on the teams’ standings with Dash managing to finish in the top half at 17th. Even though they didn’t finish as well as they hoped, it was still better than finished in dead last where many people predicted they would finish at.

Trivia[]

  • The Turtle Sliders have a rivalry with the Oceanics.
  • Crush and Squirt are presumably named after the sea turtles from Disney-Pixar's Finding Nemo.
  • The Turtle Sliders are one of two currently active JMR teams that have yet to compete in a Marble League. The other is the Solar Flares.
    • They are also one of three active teams to never qualify for a Marble League through a qualifier. The other three teams are the Kobalts, and the Solar Flares.
