The Rojo Rollers are a team with red and blue/brown stripes that was introduced in Marble League 2016. The Rojo Rollers ended in sixth place overall in Marble League 2016, but the team failed to qualify for the Marble League for four consecutive years. The Rojo Rollers barely escaped elimination in Marble League Showdown 2020 and finally returned to the Marble League in 2021 by finishing fourth in Group A of the Marble League 2021 Qualifiers.

The team hails from Numerun and competed in the Surculo before participating in Marble League 2016. They are known for getting the 1st gold medal in Marble League history, but they are also infamous for not being able to qualify for Marble Leagues for four straight consecutive years and their poor showings in Marbula One.

In 2021, the Rojo Rollers made it into the Marble League for the first time since their debut. Unfortunately, they performed poorly throughout the tournament and subsequently finished in last overall, though they did win a single bronze medal. The next year, the team again failed to qualify for the Marble League after choking away their strong start to the Qualifiers in their group.

But in the Marble League Showdown 2022, the Rojo Rollers managed to recover from their poor start to the tournament, allowing them to finish the Showdown in 7th overall. All this perseverance culminated in the team qualifying for Marble League 2023, after which they showed a return to form not seen since the inaugural season, achieving their best performance at the Marble League so far as they won four medals and finished 5th overall.

Rojo Rollers fans

Fans of the Rojo Rollers during the Marble League 2019 Qualifiers.

The Rojo Rollers come from the outskirts of Numerun, a city located exactly in the middle of Central America. It is known as the “newest old” city in the world, having been settled for over a millennium before explorers from across the ocean rediscovered it about five hundred years ago. The explorers shared goods from their side of the world, which led to growth for the city. It is now one of the most diverse, economically advanced, and intellectual cities in the world.

Numerun's ancient center, Numerun Antigua, has been preserved from modern urban development, making the city one of the most interesting tourist attractions in the world. There is also a modern city center which encircles the ancient center. One of the most notable landmarks is Colina Umerun, a centuries-old artificial hill designed specifically for marble racing that, after continual renovations, is still in use today. Racing down Colina Umerun is what inspired both the Rojo Rollers and Red Number 3 to enter marble sports. The team got its name from team members' red homes in Numerun Antigua.

The five current members of the Rojo Rollers used to work in the modern city center. In fact, they were all familiar with each other from the workplace, where they were mathematicians at competing universities. They formally met each other during the city's Milenaria, which is celebrated in Numerun Antigua. The universities decided to go on a historic academic trip together, grouping together departments of various schools. After getting to know each other throughout the day and making several bad math puns, the five went down the Colina Umerun, one after the other, and regrouped at the bottom. Rojo Uno felt amazed after rolling down and expected the others to feel the same way, but the other four marbles shook it off and moved on with the day.

It was not until a few months later, when they met for dinner, that they all began to realize that they felt the same way. Rojo Uno, Rojo Dos, Rojo Tres, and Rojo Cuatro stepped away from their jobs the following semester, and began to seek training. Luckily for them, Numerun was the host city for the Surculo, the most popular marble sports tournament south of Marblopolis. They quickly found a trainer and, in 2012, entered the Surculo.

Meanwhile, Rojo Cinco remained at their job so they could complete a second doctorate degree in sports medicine. During their time at university, they came across Red Number 3, who was completing their master's degree in sports medicine. The two became friends upon finding out, during one of their class sessions, that they were both interested in the Surculo.

The Rojo Rollers started off poorly in the Surculo, finishing within the bottom half in their first tournament. The team was not deterred and improved in the next year, finishing exactly in the middle of the competition. In 2014, their margin of improvement was significant, and they earned a wild card spot in the elite league. Even though the stakes rose in 2015, the Rojo Rollers, steadfast to their passion and skill, improved still, and finished as runners-up to the Jawbreakers at the conclusion of the tournament.

With the announcement of Marble League 2016, Greg Woods extended an invite to the leading teams of many regional marble sports tournaments including the top three teams of the 2015 Surculo: the Jawbreakers, the Rojo Rollers, and the Quicksilvers. The Jawbreakers and the Rojo Rollers accepted, while the Quicksilvers declined in favor of one more shot at winning the Surculo. The Jungle Jumpers, who finished fourth, also declined the invitation, so the fifth-placed Chocolatiers were the third team who accepted.[3]

The Rojo Rollers win gold in Balancing

The Rojo Rollers entered Marble League 2016 as strong as they possibly could have, earning the first gold medal in the tournament's history in Balancing. Their points record of 347 cm lasted for three years until the Crazy Cat's Eyes broke it in Marble League 2019. The team were eliminated in the first round of the next event, the Relay Race, but received an extra point as consolation due to a construction defect on the uppermost track. They came last during Event 3, Collision, but made up for it in the Sand Rally, with Rojo Uno winning a silver medal. The team were at the top of the standings for a second time. Rojo Dos placed fourth in the next event, the Long Jump, to earn four more points.

The Rojo Rollers win gold in the High Jump

However, the next event, the Water Race, seemed to have foreshadowed the downfall of the Rojo Rollers, as Rojo Cuatro was disqualified for allegedly blocking one of their opponents. The team lost three points as a result. Rojo Cuatro attempted to appeal the disqualification, claiming they were stuck on the course, but their appeal was denied. This only made the team work harder, and their effort immediately paid off in the next event, the High Jump, where Rojo Dos earned a gold medal. For the third time within the season, the Rojo Rollers were at the top of the standings.

Unfortunately, the Rojo Rollers slipped away later on and only earned one point during the last five events of the season, that single point coming from placing eighth in Quartet Diving. They finished Marble League 2016 in sixth place overall with 30 points. Had the team not been disqualified, the Rojo Rollers would have finished in fifth place, two points ahead of the O'rangers.[3]

2017[]

RRML17Q

The Rojo Rollers competing in Block Pushing

The Rojo Rollers' return in the Marble League 2017 Qualifiers was a continuation of the downturn they experienced in the second half of the previous season. Although the team finished ninth in the Relay Race, they went scoreless for the rest of Qualifiers and finished in last place with only four points. Out of the four original teams who failed to appear in a second consecutive season, the Rojo Rollers were arguably the most surprising on the list—the team had been in the top four of the standings at the end of every 2016 event, except for the final two.

While the Rojo Rollers were experiencing their first extended offseason, they entered into an official partnership with rising Marble Rally star Red Number 3, who hails from Bifornya, a village outside of Numerun. As part of the partnership, Rojo Cinco finally joined the Rojo Rollers as their reserve. The team traveled to Doornse Gat to support Red Number 3 in Sand Marble Rally 2017. The team became very close with Red Number 3, even including their likeness in their logo, and they began training together.[3]

2018[]

The Rojo Rollers finish in first in Curling

The Rojo Rollers competed in the Marble League 2018 Qualifiers and were seeded in Group A. They won the first event, Curling, and finished second in the final event, the Halfpipe. Despite such a good performance, the Rojo Rollers failed to qualify for the second year in a row, coming in fifth place with 19 points. The Balls of Chaos, who had missed Marble League 2017 along with the Rojo Rollers, qualified at the top of their group. The Snowballs were already selected to host Marble League 2018, making the Rojo Rollers and the Kobalts the two teams to miss out on two Marble Leagues in a row. The team were disappointed, but they decided to remain together, as did the Kobalts.

The Rojo Rollers initially planned to return to their universities for a semester to teach, but realized that the paparazzi would be hounding them. A few months later, they hosted a joint conference about their experience in Marble League, and broke records for the largest attendance in academic conference history. It was clear that, despite not being in the Marble League for so long, the Rojo Rollers had retained a dedicated fanbase, especially in their home city. Additionally, with the help of Red Number 3, the team began construction of a training facility and marble sports stadium, located in the city of Numerun. The stadium features a gap in the stands, allowing viewers to get a direct view of Colina Umerun. This stadium was submitted as a host for Marble League 2019, but was not chosen.

Rojo Uno wins the Marble League 2018 Consolation Race

The Rojo Rollers' offseason started well with a win in the Marble League 2018 Consolation Race, leaping into the finish line. However, Rojo Tres placed sixteenth in the 100 Meter Water Race, just behind Yellup of Mellow Yellow. In the Amazing Maze Marble Race, the team placed first in their heat, but finished last in their semifinal group. The team showed promise, but doubt was cast on their ability to follow through in the Marble League 2019 Qualifiers.

Also during this time, the Rojo Rollers released their new logo, featuring a roller skate instead of a red number three pool ball. This disturbed Red Number 3, who thought the team had ended their relationship with them. They met privately to assure them this was not happening. However, when Red Number 3 was exposed as a keychain, the team cut partnership with them before the team's reputation was tarnished.[3]

2019[]

RRML19Q

The Rojo Rollers competing in Block Pushing

The doubt about the Rojo Rollers' recent performances became their reality in the Marble League 2019 Qualifiers, where they missed out on the Marble League for the third season in a row. The team finished within the mid to bottom half in each of the events, and never made it into the top twelve overall. At this point, the team were prepared for a third extended offseason, and maybe longer. Their new coach, Rojo Cero, thought their morale was gone. They remarked that the five could work well as a team, but only Rojo Uno and Rojo Dos could really compete individually.

The Rojo Rollers rejoiced at the announcement of Marble League Showdown 2019 and immediately got to training. As the Showdown approached, the team emerged as a favorite to not only advance to the Marble League 2020 Qualifiers, but to win the Showdown overall. However, they did not show it in the first event, the Sand Rally, where Rojo Cuatro finished seventh.

The Rojo Rollers win gold in Collision

Then came the next event, Collision, the event the Rojo Rollers did not perform very well at three years previously. However, the team surprised the audience by dominating over their group and pulling tight leads over their opponents in the knockout stage. All five of the Rojo Rollers members were on the podium for their first main series gold medal since the Marble League 2016. The team rose to second place in the standings, further proving their place in the Marble League.

In the third event, the Funnel Race, the Rojo Rollers put in Rojo Dos. Although Rojo Cuatro had more experience in funnel spinning, they had already participated in the Sand Rally event. The team's gamble with Rojo Dos paid off, with their performance earning them a bronze medal. The team remained in second overall, just one point behind the Snowballs, but most importantly, they managed to secure a spot in the Marble League 2020 Qualifiers.

RRMLS192

The Rojo Rollers on the podium for finishing third in Marble League Showdown 2019

The final event, Balancing, was the event the Rojo Rollers had the best experience in, but this time, they did not show it. The team, perhaps in an effort to conserve their energy, came in last. They remained within the top three at the conclusion of the Showdown, placing third behind the Hornets, who had overtaken them in the standings. The Rojo Rollers were one point and one medal ahead of Team Primary, who jumped to fourth after winning a gold medal in the aforementioned Balancing event. Meanwhile, the Kobalts finished the Showdown in tenth place and would remain in the Showdown in 2020, guaranteeing that at least one of the two teams would not get a second season of the Marble League just yet.

During the Rojo Rollers' training session as preparation for the Marble League 2020 Qualifiers, Rojo Cero received an official letter from the JMRC, inviting the team to compete in Marbula One Season 1. The team accepted the invitation and had Rojo Uno and Rojo Dos represent them there. With Marbula One as their proving ground, the Rojo Rollers were looking ahead for the upcoming Marble League 2020 Qualifiers.[3]

Following the Showdown, the Rojo Rollers reached out to Red Number 3 once again, and improved their relationship. The Marble Rally athlete hired the team a new manager, Rojo Macho, and gave the team tips heading into Marbula One.[1]

Marbula One Season 1[]

RRM1S1

The Rojo Rollers competing in Marbula One Season 1

The Rojo Rollers had a poor start to Marbula One Season 1 with both Rojo Uno and Rojo Dos failing to earn any points in their opening Grands Prix at the Savage Speedway and the O'raceway, dropping the team to last place overall. Their lack of competing in the spotlight was showing. Rojo Uno started to turn the season around by earning four points at the Momotorway Grand Prix followed by one point for Rojo Dos at the Hivedrive Grand Prix. At the halfway point the Rojo Rollers were in 15th overall.

The Rollers had a better second half to Marbula One Season 1, with Rojo Uno finishing in fifth at Greenstone, earning them ten points, double what they had earned in the first half. Rojo Dos competed in the next two Grands Prix at the Short Circuit and the Razzway, finishing in sixth at both, earning the team eight points at each. Unfortunately, Rojo Uno could not replicate this and finished in tenth at the final Grand Prix at Midnight Bay. Despite their better second half, the team finished in 13th overall. Rojo Dos admitted they could have done better but were happy with their first performance in a major tournament in multiple years.[3]

Marble League 2020[]

The whole team returned for the Marble League 2020 Qualifiers. The team had some confidence coming in, ready to prove themselves after many years away from the main competition. Despite setting a record and winning the gold at Marble League 2016, the Rojo Rollers came in last place in the first event, Balancing, shattering their confidence. This was followed by another bottom half finish in Funnel Endurance. Their best result was a ninth place finish in the next event, Block Pushing, but they returned to their poor form with a 14th place finish in the final event, the 5 Meter Sprint. The Rollers finished in 19th overall, failing to qualify for Marble League 2020, their fourth year in a row. The Rojo Rollers left the Andromedome in shame, doubting their sporting abilities.

RRMLS20

The Rojo Rollers competing in the Halfpipe

The Rollers once again had to compete in the Marble League Showdown 2020. They started off well, winning a bronze medal in the Relay Run, their first medal in a year. They just missed the podium in the next event, the Halfpipe. However, the team could not keep up their better performances and finished the competition with two bottom half finishes in the Black Hole Funnel and the Sand Mogul Race. The Rollers finished in eighth, the final qualification spot for the Marble League 2021 Qualifiers. Rojo Cero admitted the team were focusing on improving their individual performances during the break during the offseason.

The Rojo Rollers were not invited back to participate in Marbula One Season 2 so they decided to spend their offseason competing in the Surculo as extra practice. They were excited to be back and compete with their old friends again. The Rollers had a poor start, finishing last in the Sprint. Despite this poor start, the team managed to medal in all of the remaining team events (they continued to perform poorly in the individual events) which was enough for them to win the league, beating Team Toadstool by three points. Following their win, they returned to training for Marble League 2021, motivated by their narrow victory. This included training with Red Number 3.[3]

Marble League 2021[]

Rojo Uno leading Indie of the Indigo Stars in the Marble League 2021 Practice Race

Just before Marble League 2021 Qualifiers, Rojo Uno competed in Marble League 2021 Practice Race, finishing second overall after leading the race for some time.[3]

The team was put into Group A of the Marble League 2021 Qualifiers. The team surprised everyone by finishing in the top five in all of four events leading the Rollers to finish in fourth in their group, finally qualifying for the Marble League after a break of five years.

The Rojo Rollers got off to a slow start to Marble League 2021, finishing 12th in the Swing Wave, placing eighth in Balancing, and finishing 13th in the 5 Meter Sprint. However, in Funnel Endurance Rojo Dos won the team's first medal in the main league since 2016, winning a bronze. A quarter of the way through, the Rollers were in 11th overall. Unfortunately it all went down from there.

With two 13th pace finishes in the 5 Meter Relay and in Jousting, followed by a 15th place in the 5 Meter Hurdles, the Rojo Rollers dropped all the way into last place. They briefly got out of the bottom with a 12th place in Block Pushing. However, things went downhill again in the very next event, the Triathlon, as Rojo Tres was pushed off of the track by Blue Eye from the Crazy Cat's Eyes, causing them to DNF and finish in 15th, and they fell back to last place overall.

A seventh place in the Steeplechase was the team's only top-half finish in the following five events, keeping them in last place overall. Unfortunately, Rojo Uno could not replicate their second place from the Practice Race and only finished 15th in the Sand Rally. This was the final nail in the coffin for their coach, Rojo Cero, who got sacked in the middle of the event, being replaced by Rojo Oro. Under the new coach, the team performed better in the final two events, finishing fourth in Football and Marblocross. However, this was not enough to get out of last place, and the Rojo Rollers ended their first Marble League tournament in five years in dead last.

2022[]

Marble League 2022[]

The Rojo Rollers were sorted into Group A and started out great in the 2022 qualifiers with a 2nd place finish in Climbing but an 11th place finish in Hurdles dropped them to 6th, then a 5th place finish in Balancing dropping them to 7th and finishing 11th in Triathlon which made them slip down to 9th, the Rojo Rollers failed to qualify for the Marble League 2022.

The Rollers had a slow start to the 2022 Showdown, by finishing 10th and 12th respectively in the first two events, the team was in 14th overall, the next event turned their fortunes around, where Rojo Cinco placed 5th in the Water Race, launching the team to 10th overall, the team placed 9th in the 5 Meter Relay, launching the team one spot up to 9th, the Rollers won a bronze medal in Block Pushing, launching the team to 7th overall, Rojo Dos places 8th in the Funnel Endurance, dropping the team to 8th overall, the team got 10th in Climbing, dropping the team again to 9th overall, Rojo Cuatro competed in the final event the Sand Rally, where they finished in 5th, bringing the team back to 7th overall and qualifying for Marble League 2023 Qualifiers.

The Rojo Rollers competed in two off-season events in the Xmas Race Rojo Tres finished in 27th and in the G-Force Endurance event the team finished in 3rd place.

2023[]

Marble League 2023[]

The Rojo Rollers were sorted into Group B and started out in the 2023 qualifiers with a 6th place finish in the Honeycomb Pursuit, then a 7th place finish by Rojo Tres in the 5 meter sprint which only dropped them to 7th, the team won a bronze in the Wave which jumped them from 7th to 5th, and Rojo Dos finished in 6th in the Funnel Endurance which led them into 6th place in Group B, taking the final spot in the qualifiers beating out the newcomers, Purple Rockets by six points and one point behind the Midnight Wisps.

The team started out Marble League 2023 with mediocre results in the first event, the Honeycomb Team Pursuit, as they finished in 10th behind Team Plasma. The Rojo Rollers won their first silver medal ever since 2016 in the next event, in the Steeplechase which launched the team up to 4th place overall. Rojo Dos was chosen to compete in the 5 Meter Hurdles, they missed out on the Semifinals by Yellow Eye of the Crazy Cat's Eyes, Luckily Rojo Dos was faster than the other marbles that were eliminated from the heats and got 9th place. Unfortunately it all went down from there. An 11th place finish in Block Pushing and then a 15th place finish in the 5 Meter Sprint by Rojo Tres dropped them from 5th to 10th place overall.

Luckily the team got 8th place in Tug of War which launched them to 8th place overall. Rojo Dos was chosen again to compete in the Funnel Endurance and passed their heat in 3rd and finished in 6th in the final. The next event was Balancing, the event where the Rojo Rollers won a gold medal in but also placed last place on two occasions and the Rojo Rollers won their second silver medal with a total of 384, one centimeter short of the Mellow Yellow’s 385 for a gold medal. With the silver medal they launched up from 9th to 6th overall.

Rojo Cinco was chosen to compete in the Triathlon event, the event where the Rojo Rollers had bad experience in previous years, however Rojo Cinco passed their heat and finished in 7th after losing out to Blue Eye of the Crazy Cat’s Eyes, the team still remained in 6th overall. Unfortunately the next event did not go well for the Rojo Rollers as they placed dead last in the 5 Meter Relay, as a result they dropped to 8th overall. The next event the Maze Run didn’t go as planned for the Rojo Rollers as Rojo Uno finished in 10th dropping the team back to 10th overall where they started out this season. Luckily the Rollers managed to replicate their success from the Qualifiers in the next event, the Legion March Wave by getting a bronze which launched them back to 6th place overall, 28 points away from the leading Savage Speeders. Things went even better for the Rojo Rollers in the next event, They sent out their captain Rojo Uno, who won their first gold medal ever since 2016 after making a comeback to overtake Gloomo from Team Plasma in the Elimination Race, The Rollers were now in 3rd overall, seven points behind the leading Bumblebees and Savage Speeders.

Unfortunately the Rojo Rollers couldn’t replicate their success in the G-Force Endurance event, and only finished 9th in the event, However the Rollers were still in 3rd overall nine points ahead of the defending champions the Pinkies, and twenty-five points behind the Savage Speeders. Another 9th place finish in the Sand Rally by Rojo Cuatro dropped them to 5th overall, however they were still competing for a championship title. Unfortunately Rojo Dos only finished the final event, the Honeydome GP in 7th, leading the Rollers to finish 5th overall, which is now their best ever Marble League finish, one place better than their 2016 finish, and a lot better than their 2021 finish, where they finished dead last.

The Rojo Rollers sent in Rojo Cinco to participate in the Christmas Race 2023, Rojo Cinco finished their heat in second place behind Jump of the Jungle Jumpers, However Rojo Cinco struggled in their Semifinal then eventually got stuck and DNF’d, leading them to finish 16th out of 32 teams.
