The Bumblebees are a team that debuted at the start of Hubelino Tournament 2018, and later appeared in Marble League Showdown 2019 and Marble League 2020. They also competed in Marbula One Season 2, Marbula One Season 3, and Marbula One Season 4. They will host Marble League 2023 after competing in Marble League 2022.

Team Members[]

Bumble, Bea, Swax, and Honey were the original members of the team during the Hubelino Tournament. Upon entering Marble League Showdown 2019, Bumble became team captain, whilst Bomble joined the team as reserve member. In Marble League Showdown 2019 and the Marble League 2020 Qualifiers, the team used the pseudonyms: Brumble, Bramble, Brimble, Bromble, and Bremble. Their true names were later revealed in the Marble League 2020 Opening Ceremony.

On 12 August 2022, Bea and Bomble were revealed to be sitting out of the 2022 Marble League season, being replaced by Stinger and Hive respectively. Both of them are former members of the Hornets, who the Bumblebees had recently bought out, with Stinger being the former captain of the team. Swax became the new reserve while Bumble remained as captain. The team has kept the changes as of 2023.

History[]

Pre-2018[]

The Bumblebees come from the city of Buzzpig on the eastern border of Buzznya, a region in Eastern Europe that borders Herbotamia to the south and Galakonur to the east. The city is located on the opposite side of the region to the city of Buzzkill, the hometown of the Hornets, with whom they have had a long-running rivalry.

Bumble founded the Bumblebees in 2010 to compete with the Hornets, whose popularity in Buzzpig was steadily increasing. The city didn't have an official team yet, and Bumble had a desire to change that. Bumble invited Bea, Swax, Honey, and Bomble, all of whom Bumble had known from their days playing bugby, to a reunion. The five agreed to form a new team of their own, confident that their athletics skills could transfer to marble racing. Queen, who later became their coach, was an active member of the Royal Family of Buzznya and played a key role in making the five the official sports team of Buzzpig. Queen is a former cricket player and uses their sports knowledge to help the team with their training.

BugCircuit2011

The final podium of the 2011 Bug Circuit

Shortly after the Bumblebees were founded, the Royal Family of Buzznya founded the Bug Circuit, a marble racing tournament to determine the best team in the land. The Bumblebees were selected as hosts for the first season in 2011. They hosted in their newly constructed stadium, the Buzzbowl. Unfortunately, by the end of the season, the Bumblebees were in second, ahead of the Ladybugs in third, but behind their rivals, the Hornets.

The Bumblebees spent the next two years finishing the Bug Circuit in the top five, but always behind the Hornets. The team finally won their first tournament in 2014 at the Slowlane, the stadium of the Snails. They dominated the competition, winning all of the snow races and finishing in the top half of the other events. The Hornets struggled that year, missing the podium but still finishing in the top half.

The Hornets had their revenge in 2015 when they were selected to host the Bug Circuit at the Hivedrive. The events they had chosen for the tournament played to the weaknesses of the Bumblebees, and so the team failed to make it into the top five for the first time ever. Before this, the Bumblebees saw their rivalry with the Hornets as symbolic, but this changed everything.

The 2016 Bug Circuit was hosted by the Water Striders at their stadium, the Stridosphere. The Bumblebees returned to the podium, coming third right ahead of the Hornets. By 2017, the Bumblebees started to lose interest in the Bug Circuit. They finished in the top five that year, but grew weary of the competition and needed a change. After the 2017 tournament ended, the team decided to retire from the Bug Circuit.[1]

2018[]

The Bumblebees win the first event, the Swing Wave

The Hubelino Tournament 2018 was about to start but had an opening due to the retirement of Team Phoenix. The Bumblebees took interest in the tournament, and so they applied for participation, hoping to take the spot left over by Team Phoenix. The team were accepted due to their past successes and their home region's close proximity to Herbotamia, so they could be considered a regional competitor.

The Bumblebees were sorted into Group A for the first event, the Swing Wave, and immediately made a strong first impression, winning the gold medal in the event. However, in the next event, the Catwalk, the team came seventh, allowing the Minty Maniacs to take the lead in the tournament. A sixth-place finish in Event 3, the Funnel Race, saw the Bumblebees drop to 4th overall.

The Bumblebees earned their second medal, another gold, in the next event, the Halfpipes, taking them back to second overall. However, another two less impressive finishes in the next two events returned them to fourth, making a tournament win for the Minty Maniacs seem inevitable. The Bumblebees decided that something had to change so they could win the tournament.

Then came Event 7, the Maze. The Bumblebees decided to have Swax participate in the event. The strategy paid off as they managed to survive elimination in the first two rounds, and again in the penultimate round. They went on to win the team their third gold medal of the tournament, bringing them once again to second place overall. The Bumblebees were six points behind the Minty Maniacs as the tournament went into the final event, the Big Tower, where Bumble was chosen to represent the team. They performed exceptionally in their heat, leading much of the race up to the final stretch, finishing second behind the Bluefastics.

The Bumblebees during the Closing Ceremony

With the Minty Maniacs eliminated in the heats, chances to win the Hubelino Tournament 2018 were wide open for the Bumblebees. Unfortunately, the final started poorly for Bumble, but they were undeterred. They were able to roll through the catwalk behind the Ruby Rollers and later overtook them while skipping the funnel. Bumble eventually won the race, beating the Ruby Rollers and the Valiant Violets by one second. This allowed the Bumblebees to snatch the title from the grasp of the Minty Maniacs in an underdog upset. The team returned to Buzzpig, where a citywide victory parade was held.[1]

2019[]

Fans of the Marble League came to notice the Bumblebees following their success in the Hubelino Tournament 2018, calling for them to take part in the Marble League 2019 Qualifiers. The team were flattered but declined as they thought it would be too fast for them. They wanted another year of competing while trying to consider applying for the Marble League.

BeesMLS19Start

The Bumblebees competing against their rivals, the Hornets

However, the announcement of the Marble League Showdown changed their plans as the Bumblebees agreed to compete in Marble League Showdown 2019 as it would give them the year of training they desired. Meanwhile, Bomble also rejoined the team as reserve member while Bumble was made the captain of the team. During this time, the team started adopting the pseudonyms of Brumble, Bramble, Brimble, Bromble, and Bremble, to protect their identity, much like what the O'rangers did in the first event of Marble League 2016.

The Bumblebees never expected their long-time rivals, the Hornets, to join them in the Showdown. In reality, the Hornets, who finished second in the 2018 Bug Circuit, did make the cut for the Showdown thanks to their successful fan team vote campaign. During this time, the Bumblebees were able to reconcile with the Hornets during their joint training session for the Showdown.[2][1]

Bomble coming fourth in the Funnel Race

The Bumblebees had a decent start to the Showdown. In the first event, the Sand Rally, Vespa of the Hornets kept blocking Bea for the first half of the race. Bea managed to pass Vespa, but could not get past Candy of the Jawbreakers. Unfortunately, Bea got caught on the course and finished in sixth, while Vespa finished in second. The team realized they could not compete with their rivals yet, and decided to focus on qualifying.

The Bumblebees did poorly in Event 2, Collision, finishing last in their group. The team dropped to ninth in the standings but were undaunted and kept pushing. They eventually had their best finish in the next event, the Funnel Race, with Bomble coming in fourth, beating Stinger of the Hornets. The team rose to seventh overall, and remained there after a seventh-place finish in the final event, Balancing. As a result, the Bumblebees qualified for the Marble League 2020 Qualifiers.[1]

The Bumblebees come second in Balancing

The Bumblebees had a strong start to the Marble League 2020 Qualifiers, getting a score of 406 points in Event 1, Balancing, good enough for a second-place finish. Unfortunately, they couldn't keep that momentum going and in Event 2, Funnel Endurance, Bea came in 15th. Despite this, the Bumblebees still held on to the top 10 in seventh place.

A bad fifteenth-place finish in Block Pushing dropped the team to tenth. With Bomble finishing sixteenth overall in the final event, the 5 Meter Sprint, things were looking grim. Fortunately, the Bumblebees got lucky, as Team Primary finished 13th, the Jungle Jumpers finished 4th, while the Snowballs finished 20th. As a result, the Bumblebees sat at 35 points, tied with Team Momo, Team Primary and the Jungle Jumpers, and were able to claim the last qualification spot for Marble League 2020 thanks to their second-place finish in Balancing.

During the opening ceremony for Marble League 2020, the Bumblebees revealed their true names. In the first four events, the Bumblebees came home with modest results. In the first event, Balancing, they placed eighth, while in the second event, they finished 10th. This was followed by an eighth and a seventh place finish in the following two events, Funnel Endurance and the Newton's Cradle. The team were eighth in the standings. However, things went downhill from there. In the fifth event, Long Jump, Bea had a mediocre 14th place, causing the team to drop to eleventh. This was followed by another three bottom half finished, leaving the team in 13th by the end of the first half of the season, 78 points behind the leading O'rangers, and five points behind their rivals, the Hornets.

Honey started the second half with another eighth place finish in the Sand Mogul Race. This was followed by another set of three bottom half finishes, dropping the Bumblebees to 14th overall. However, the next event proved that the Bumblebees were still capable of fighting for podiums. Honey performed exceptionally well, finishing second in the High Jump, behind Mandarin from the leading O'rangers. Despite their second place, the Bumblebees were still eliminated from championship contention due to Mandarin winning the gold medal.

The team proceeded to have another eighth place finish in the Team Aquathlon, being eliminated from overall podium contention in the process. In the penultimate event, Collision, they finished in 13th place after being eliminated in the group stage. The final event, the Marathon was run by Bumble, who successfully rose to fifth after starting the race in 11th. The Bumblebees finished 11th in the standings with 106 points and a silver medal to their name, beating their rivals the Hornets.[1]

Off-season[]

The Bumblebees returned to Buzznya during the off-season and spent most of the time at the Royal Palace, with its luxurious views of Honeycomb Island where the teammates would train when not playing bugby.

The next competition the Bumblebees competed in was the Herbotamia Reunion Tournament in Chlorotopia. The teams played Marbles & Monoliths on the bus ride to the tournament. The marbles who attended the tournament signed an NDA so the results of the tournament are unknown. After the tournament, the team returned to Buzznya to continue training on an obstacle course they had built. During this time Queen became friends with Nectar and Beeline, a duo from south Buzznya who were the best cricket players in the region. Queen saw they would be great role models for the team so hired them as assistant coaches. This allowed Queen to focus more on managing the team and building the Honeydome, the team's Marbula One track.[1]

Marbula One Season 2[]

M1S2R3StartingLine

The Bumblebees were invited to participate in Marbula One Season 2 with Bumble "Unbeeleivable" and Honey "Sweet Dream" representing them.

The Bumblebees immediately proved themselves as a strong team as they delivered four top-half finishes in the first four rounds, including Bumble finishing second in the qualifiers at their home race, the Honeydome GP, and finishing fourth in the race. The team's first misstep came when Bumble finished tenth at the Tumult Turnpike GP, followed by the team's first failure to qualify for Honey at the Arctic Circuit GP. At the end of the first half of the season, the team were in fifth place overall.

During the off-season, the team played cricket with Nectar and Beeline. They also hibernated in the castle during the cold winter days. The team had been offered a place at the Marble League Winter Special, but declined, deciding to stay in Buzznya.[1]

2021[]

Marbula One Season 2[]

The team started the second half of the Marbula One season with Honey finishing tenth at the Raceforest GP. Unfortunately, the team's promising performances from the first half of the season did not continue and the Bumblebees failed to qualify for the next two Grands Prix at the Momotorway and Palette Park, dropping the team to 11th overall.

BumbleClutterM1S2G10

Bumble alongside Clutter from the Balls of Chaos stuck on the course in Misty Mountain GP

Bumble participated in the next Grand Prix at Misty Mountain and qualified in second place. They had a strong start to the race and took the lead during Lap 6. Bumble was then overtaken by Cerulean from the Kobalts. Bumble tried to make the move to overtake Cerulean on the backstretch of Lap 8, but Bumble collided with Cerulean, lost all of their momentum and became stuck. The Safety Marble was then released in order to save Bumble but failed to do so. Clutter from the Balls of Chaos then also got stuck in the same corner. After the Safety Marble failed to save either racer, a red flag was flown and the two racers were rescued, Bumble being awarded a 15th place finish as Clutter had gotten stuck in the Safety Marble lane earlier. This unfortunately dropped the team to 12th overall.

Following the race, Nectar and Beeline called an emergency meeting in Buzznya. They revealed to the team that the Hornets would be retiring from the Marble League. Queen, using funds from the treasury of the Royal Family of Buzznya, bought the team and their track, the Hivedrive, to save them from bankruptcy. The Hornets thanked the Bumblebees for their hospitality and for being great rivals but insisted that they must still retire as they didn't want to compete anymore. The Hornets stayed at the Royal Palace and used it as a home base and would attend events, backing their former rivals.

During the extended break before the final two GPs, the Bumblebees spent their time training at the Royal Palace with the Hornets, who were teaching the team about how to navigate the Hive. They also played bugby against each other.

The final two races would see two more difficult outings for the team. A fifteenth place finish for both Honey and Bumble at the Savage Speedway GP and the Midnight Bay GP respectively meant the team had scored no points since the three they earned back at the Raceforest GP at the start of the second half of the season. This scoreless run meant the team finished the season in 13th overall, a far cry from where they stood in the overall standings after the Tumult Turnpike GP, in third.

Following the disappointing season, the team returned to Buzznya. They had been more affected by their rivals' retirement than they thought which had contributed to their poor performance. To try to recover, the team returned to Honeycomb Island to relax and play bugby with the Hornets. Nectar and Beeline also officially became the managers of the team, overseeing the team's finances.[1]

Marble League 2021[]

The Bumblebees would compete with the Hornets one final time during the Marble League 2021 Practice Race, where Bumble finished in 17th, eight spots ahead of Vespa.[1]

The team were sorted into Group B for the Marble League 2021 Qualifiers. As had happened the previous year, the team had one podium finish, a third in Funnel Endurance, with their other finishes being in the bottom half. Unlike last year, the team didn't do enough and they finished the Qualifiers in ninth, two points away from qualifying.

The team returned for the Marble League Showdown 2021 and had a poor start, with Bomble finishing 11th in the 5 Meter Sprint, followed by a sixth place finish for Honey in Funnel Endurance. Things started to look up for the team when they won their first medal of the competition, a bronze in the 5 Meter Relay, taking them into the top half of the standings. However, two middle-of-the-pack finishes in Block Pushing and Triathlon dropped them back into the bottom half. The Bumblebees won their second medal, a silver, in the next event, Diving, rising the team to third overall. After two final mid-pack finishes in the final two events, the team finished the tournament with 56 points, tied with Team Primary. Unfortunately, the podium position was given to Team Primary as they had a gold medal, making the Bumblebees finish fourth overall.

2022[]

Marbula One Season 3[]

After a rather successful Showdown, the Bumblebees received an invitation to compete in Marbula One Season 3, which they accepted. Following Honey's rather shaky performances in the previous season, they were replaced by Swax "The Bee's Knees", with Bumble being retained.

Swax made their debut race at the Tumult Turnpike Grand Prix where they qualified in 16th. The race didn't go much better as Swax ended up losing one position to finish the race in 17th, which was disappointing for a marble that was making their debut. On the flip slide, Bumble was able to score the team's first points of the season at the Sleet Street Grand Prix where they finished in 12th after qualifying in 18th. The team remained to switch out each racer after each Grand Prix and had Swax participate at the Misty Mountain Grand Prix finishing 11th in qualifying and just missing out on Q2 by 0.11 seconds. In the race, they fought hard and rose to 7th by the end, gaining fastest lap along with it. At the O'raceway Grand Prix, Bumble sadly qualified in P20, the last position but recovered greatly in the race to jump up 13 spots and finish in 7th. At the next Grand Prix, Mellow Meadows, Swax managed to do the exact opposite Bumble did in the previous race and qualified in 7th, but fell to 20th by lap 3 and stayed there the entire race. For the sixth race, the Bumblebees were at their very own race in front of the home crowd at the Honeydome Grand Prix with Bumble representing them this time. Whilst only qualifying in 16th, Bumble made up for it in the race and finished in second, their very first podium in Marbula One. This made them rise all the way up to 8th in the team standings and individual standings for Bumble heading into the mid-season break.

When Marbula One returned, the teams arrived at the Momotorway Grand Prix. Just like the previous season, the Bumblebees just couldn't keep up their performances. Swax had quite a lackluster performance and only ended the weekend in 12th. In the next two races, Bumble finished 19th in both of them and brought back zero points to the team. This thus dragged the team down to 18th, ten spots away from where the team started the second half. For the next race at Electron Expressway, Swax finished in 9th and managed to get fastest lap again, earning the team their first points in three races. Swax raced for the second time in a row at the Midnight Bay Grand Prix and ended in 10th. In the final race of the season at Mirage Meowntain, Bumble redeemed themselves from their past two races and even was leading the race at one point. They slipped a few spots though but still crossed the finish line with a 4th place and another fastest lap to end the season. This vaulted the team up 6 places to end the season in 11th and 3 fastest laps with Bumble and Swax ending their seasons in 15th and 33rd respectively. Not the best they could have hoped for, but still an improvement from Season 2.

Marble League 2022[]

Following Marbula One Season 3, the Bumblebees began to prepare for the upcoming 2022 Marble League. Included in the preparation was a change to their roster to allow for some former Hornets members to join the team for the 2022 season. This involved replacing both Bea and Bomble with Hive and original Hornets captain, Stinger. Along with this change, Swax was demoted to reserve. These changes were controversial to some as they believed the former Hornets would drag the team down even further to where they were at the moment. All of this would change coming into the Marble League 2022 Qualifiers.

The qualifiers had teams split into two groups through a draw. For this draw, the Bumblebees were in heat 8 and up against Team Primary and through this were sorted into Group B. This was known to be the 'group of death' as many top teams were in this group including the Hazers, Team Momo, Savage Speeders, Thunderbolts, and Team Galactic who were all notorious for doing well in the qualifiers meaning the Bumblebees' odds were quite low. Despite this, they persisted and placed 2nd in their group for the first event, Climbing. They then followed this up with a third in the 5 Meter Hurdles, and a fifth place in Balancing putting the team in first, one point in front of the Pinkies. A small misstep in the final event made them drop down to 4th, but still within the range of qualification, meaning the Bumblebees had now qualified for their second Marble League.

In the main league, the Bumblebees would stay consistently strong at the beginning, maintaining third in the first event, Climbing, with Honey and Hive. This was followed up by the team finishing 6th in balancing, and Swax, the reserve, getting 4th in the 5 Meter Hurdles. They were sitting in third; a much better start to the season compared to Marble League 2020. They continued this consistency into the next two events and hadn't placed below 6th after 5 events. Their first slip-up came from Event 6: Funnel Endurance where Bumble finished in a terrible 15th place. Fortunately, it was followed up by 3rd in Rafting to keep the team in fourth, 20 points behind the leading Pinkies. Their next medal came from Event 10, the Triathlon with Stinger gaining the team another bronze medal to rise one position back to 4th overall. In the final 6 events, the Bumblebees did not live up to standard and didn't get any higher than 7th, including dead last in Collision and ended the 2022 Marble League Season in 9th, just 5 points shy of the top half. Much to the team's surprise though, they were revealed as the hosts of Marble League 2023 and therefore auto-qualified with the top three teams of Marble League 2022 despite their terrible end to the season.

In the offseason, the Bumblebees participated in the Xmas Marble Race along with the other 31 active teams in the Marble League. They were represented by Bumble, the captain of the team and ended in 29th.

2023[]

Marbula One Season 4[]

Despite rather mid-table results in the past year, the Bumblebees were invited to participate in Marbula One Season 4 and accepted. Due to Swax's poor performance in Marbula One Season 3, they were replaced by Stinger, who was chosen because of their successful finishes in the Triathlon. Bumble was retained for the third season in a row.

Marble League 2023[]

Prior to the main tournament, the Bumblebees competed in the Marble League 2023 Friendly Round. After winning the Honeycomb Team Pursuit and the 5 Meter Sprint, the Bumblebees finished third in the Legion March Wave. Due to a last place finish in the Funnel Endurance, the Bumblebees finished tied on points with the Shining Swarm, but still won the Friendly Round due to position countback.

In the main tournament, the Bumblebees started off with three straight midpack results, finishing 8th in the Honeycomb Team Pursuit, 9th in the Steeplechase, and 12th in the 5 Meter Hurdles, putting them in 11th overall after the third event. The fourth event, Block Pushing, started off surprisingly well for the Bumblebees as they set a new Marble League record in the first run of the event. Despite the record being broken by the Midnight Wisps in the final run of the event, the total of the Bumblebees' best two runs was still good enough to win them their first ever gold medal in the Marble League, pushing them up the order into 4th overall. The positive trend continued as Bumble won a silver medal in the 5 Meter Sprint, only being beaten by Snowy of the Snowballs, enabling the team to climb to 2nd overall. With another gold medal in the following event, the Tug of War, the Bumblebees climbed to the top of the Marble League standings for the first time in their history, becoming the first Marble League hosts to achieve this feat. The final two events of the first half were rather disappointing with a 14th place from Honey in the Funnel Endurance and a 15th place in Balancing, dropping the team to 3rd overall at the halfway point.

The second half of Marble League 2023 started off well for the Bumblebees, as Stinger won a silver medal in the Triathlon, bringing the team back to the top of the standings. However, the next two events were underwhelming, as they finished 13th in the Maze Run, even though they had experience in this event from the Hubelino Tournament. They finished in 11th in this event, and thanks to the Savage Speeders finishing top half in both of these events, the Bumblebees fell to second. However, in the elimination race, the Savage Speeders finished 12th, meaning the Bumblebees had a huge opportunity. Sadly, they only managed 8th, but this was enough to take the lead in the standings, as they were tied with the Savage Speeders. But in the G-Force endurance, the Bumblebees lost in embarrassing fashion to the Crazy Cat’s Eyes, and finished in 10th. To make matters worse, the Savage Speeders won the event, putting the Bumblebees 19 points back of the Savage Speeders. The Bumblebees would get 10th in the rally, while the Speeders got 14th. The gap was 15 points, meaning that the Bumblees needed a podium to win and get help from the Savage Speeders, but the Pinkies were only 1 point behind the Bumblebees, and the Crazy Cat’s Eyes were four back. Bumble was placed in the Honeydome, and quickly made their way up the order in the Honeydome, eventually taking the lead, which they held for most of the second half of the race. On lap 12, the penultimate lap, Red Eye attempted to get by Bumble on the hive and nearly succeeded, but Bumble fended them off, and Red Eye hit the curb coming off of the hive, growing the gap. Bumble was two thirds of a second ahead of Red Eye entering the final lap, but felt the pressure knowing Red Eye’s history in Marbula 1. Heading into turn three, Red Eye tried to go around on the outside, but Bumble barely sealed them off. Red Eye closed right in on Bumble going through the waggle, and in an attempt to stay ahead and slightly grow their lead, Bumble attempted to go to the inside of the third turn on the waggle, but their angle was too sharp, causing them to hit the inside wall. Bumble ended up losing their speed which let Red Eye take the lead. Bumble was unable to get back by, which lost the Bumblebees the championship by 1 point, a heartbreaking loss. However, Bumble’s silver was still enough for the Bumblebees to finish in second overall, making them the first hosts to finish on the podium overall in their home stadium. This was also the first overall podium in a Marble League tor the Bumblebees. They also beat the Speeders by just 2 points.

The Bumblebees took part in the second season of Marbula One. Their team consisted of Bumble and Honey. The team had an exceptional first half, being in 5th by the end of the first half, and being as high as 3rd at one point in the season. The team collapsed in the second half however, as they only gained 3 points during that period of time, and finished 13th in the championship, 10 spots below their highest position.
