Comet is a cyan marble with a yellow streak going through the middle of them, hence their name. They compete in the Marble Rally, and are currently in the B-League. As a veteran contender, Comet has a small but remarkable fanbase.

History[]

Pre-Marble Rally[]

Comet is from the city of Startove, a city north of Polaria. In 2014, Comet went to the Polaria to watch the Stardust Classic. That was when Comet started growing their interest in marble racing, after they witnessed Team Galaxy's performance in the tournament.[1]

As a result, Comet decided to start their own marble racing career. They participated in the 500-Foot Race, which served as their prelude to the Sand Marble Rally. Surprisingly, Comet ended up winning the race, despite not being heavily favored to do so. This inspired them to take part in the inaugural Sand Marble Rally season.

In the Sand Marble Rally, Comet a marble who noticeably struggles to achieve high places, and is often lagging behind in the standings. This is especially true of their early career. But thanks to this experience, Comet seems to have improved very much throughout their career.

2016[]

Despite having won the 500-Foot Race, Comet was still considered among the outsiders for the championship into the 2016 Sand Marble Rally season. They had an inconsistent first half of the season, failing to score any points in Races 4 and 5, and was in danger of elimination as they were 23rd in the standings with 19 points. Thankfully, Comet was able to turn things around by finishing 7th in Race 6. This way, they had barely survived elimination as they were one point ahead of Blazing Fireball and Olympia.

Unfortunately, during the second half of the season, Comet was unable to get out of their standings position at 20th. Their struggle continued as they were no longer eligible for the championship title after Race 10, 127 points behind standings leader (and eventual champion) Ghost Plasma. Their 7th place finish in Race 11 notwithstanding, Comet remained last in the standings among those who qualified for the second half of the season, with a total of 66 points.

2017[]

Comet qualified in Sand Marble Rally 2017, but only finished 19th with 55 points (lost the tiebreaker to Big Pearl for 18th), 1 point ahead of 2016 champion Ghost Plasma, who came last.

2018[]

Comet once again qualified for Sand Marble Rally 2018. They once again had a bad first half, and ranked 18th halfway through the season, with one 4th-place finish, and just 18 points. However, they improved over these two seasons by winning their first race in the 5th round of the Sand Marble Rally 2018 and finished 11th overall scoring 52 points.

2019[]

Comet qualified for Marble Rally 2019 by coming 4th out of the 8 marbles in their qualifier race.

Comet's season started poorly, with a 12th, a 14th and a DNF in the first 3 races and was in 19th after the latter with just 6 points. However, they made a strong comeback, with a fifth place finish in Race 6 and they finished second in the final race just behind Summer Sky, placing 10th in the overall standings.

2020[]

Comet was guaranteed a place in Season 5 due to coming 10th overall in the standings. Their qualification was confirmed as a sudden announcement from the JMRC in September 2020 stated that Comet had been invited to take part in Season 5.[1]

Similar to previous seasons Comet had a poor first half never doing well except a 4th place in Race 6 where they came back after a poor start. This included a solid start in Race 5 getting way ahead before the bottom line in the infamous split which they fell to 14th. Comet was 17th by the end of the first half but they started to improve including a silver medal in Race 8 but after a poor final three races including a DNF in the final race they would fall back to 17th in the end.

Racer analysis and profile[]

Comet is an example of an experienced mid-field veteran with a small but steady fanbase who "has always been there", but rarely done anything of significance. Having competed in every Marble Rally race held to date, they have only notched up three podiums in their entire racing career. Their lifetime highlight came in Race 5 (2018), where they scored their only victory by defeating former champion Ghost Plasma in the second-closest finish in the series' history. Their second podium was a runner-up finish to Summer Sky in Race 8 (2019). Comet then had one more podium finish in the snow race in Race 8 (2020), finishing runner-up behind Blizzard Blaster. Along with this humiliating distinction of having very few memorable moments, Comet however has also represented an upward trend in terms of pure competition skills throughout their career. They started off with 20th place in the standings in 2016 (and last of the marbles to complete the whole season) and improved their overall position each year, to the point where they finished within the top half of the standings for the first time in 2019 at 10th overall.
