A reserve member's main purpose in the marble league is to serve as a back-up should any of their team members, for any reason, withdraw from an event, or in some cases, withdraw from that year's marble league entirely. This usually happens if a marble sustains injuries that leaves them unable to compete.
Although they are considered part of their marble league team's roster, they usually do not participate in the league's team events that consist of four members. However, a team reserve may be chosen to compete in individual events like a regular member would.
A regular member can be relegated to the position of Team Reserve should they perform poorly throughout the marble league, and should the team already have a reserve member currently in their roster, that reserve member will take their place as a regular member. However, this is not always the case, as this process is entirely dependent on whether there are any roster change announcements for the team.
